Product Development for a Utility Company

For public utility companies new products, i.e. new rates, are only successful if the IT support works seamlessly and reliably.
In the present case, the IT was the weak point in product development.

We accompanied the definition of new rates starting with the first ideas all the way through market introduction. During this process we also developed a risk evaluation tool, and we installed and established an idea finding process as a regular institution. In parallel, the user documentation was completely overhauled.

It was our aim to let the strong points of the utility company and its rates stand out clearly and in detail. For this, it was necessary to identify the weak points as a first step. So we developed an audit system with which the existing products could be checked. It was hence possible to find out where possible weak points were hidden in the rates. These weak points were systematically identified and improved so far that the utility’s customers could correctly identify them as attractive strong points.

At the end of the project there were new rates which could be offered and invoiced on a reliable IT basis – and which provided the company with a clear competitive edge.
